FULL MISSION STATEMENT
With collaboration at its core, SATELLITE BERLIN traces migratory thinking in contemporary culture, marking synergy, process and outcome. We get involved in art that engages with the sciences and humanities – from inception to event, exhibition and publication. Art becomes a language to convey the results of today’s agile thinkers at the forefront of scientific, social and political research. Our goal is to bundle competence, exchange knowledge and foster a disposition of open attitude towards forming transdiciplinary collaborations. Our platform gives the opportunity to deepen the collective thoughts about cultural and social developments. SATELLITE BERLIN aims to create a dialogue, in which these approaches find a far-reaching level of reflection and act beyond the mere presentation of the phenomena. Further: As a facilitator, we initiate transdisciplinary collaborations by connecting artists with our network of experts from other disciplines. As a producer, we foster the development and presentation of projects that link art with diverse fields of research, so that innovative ideas from the public and private sectors can be realized. As a supporter, we help with management, grant seeking, production and planning to make the outcome of these cross-pollinations accessible in events, exhibitions and in publications, Our education program includes artist/ researcher talks, hands-on workshops and field trips, which enable visitors of all ages to connect meaningfully with the art on view. |
KIT SCHULTE, founder and director
Founder Kit Schulte has over 25 years of experience in the areas of management, marketing, publishing and curating. She worked as a product/project manager and producer for private companies and cultural institutions in San Francisco and Berlin. In 2000 she founded Culturelounge, a nonprofit arts organization, establishing a platform for dialogue within an international network of artists and curators. In 2006 she co-founded Cain Schulte Gallery in San Francisco, which became Kit Schulte Contemporary Art upon her return to Berlin in 2009. In Berlin, she continued her ambitious exhibition program showcasing many artists from the US, the UK, Israel and of course Berlin. Within time, the gallery's focus was set on contemporary drawing and transdisciplinary work in collaboration with scientific institutions (i.e. Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin). In 2014 she founded the non-profit organization SATELLITE BERLIN to dedicate a mobile platform for the dialogue between art and the sciences. 
NORA NOVAK, photographer
Nora Novak is a freelance and assistant photographer living in Berlin and Croatia. Born in Dubrovnik, Croatia, Nora grew up between there and Germany, and her education and professional experiences are anchored in these two countries. She pursues varies genres, ranging from journalistic coverage in the Croatian media to advertisement. Having grown up in a family restaurant, she has a natural passion towards gastronomic photography. Her experience in both areas, photography and food making makes her involvement in VITAL FORCES – FOOD IN CONTEXT a special point of interest for her. Nora continues her studies at the Technical Artcollege in Berlin to deepen her knowledge and understanding of narrative photography, with people as her favorite subjects. She participated in several group exhibitions in Berlin and Dubrovnik. 
DR. GABY HARTEL, curator and concept advisor
Berlin-based Gaby Hartel works at the intersection of the visual arts, literature, sound art and science. She is a scholar, essayist, curator, cultural journalist and award-winning broadcaster and has written extensively for international publications including Centre Pompidou’s New Media Department. Gaby is a renowned Beckett scholar and an associate member of the Beckett International Foundation, Reading (UK). Currently, she is translating Beckett’s unpublished German Diaries into German. Gaby has taught in Germany and abroad. As a curator, she has worked on exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Wien, ZKM Karlsruhe, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and Akademie der Künste in Berlin, among others. Currently, she is a curator for sound art in PAN: Perspectives on Nature at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, a pilot project for new approaches to science museums. 
INES LAUBER, director VITAL FORCES - Food in context
Leading director of VITAL FORCES - Food in context is food designer Inés Lauber. Inés studied production design in Potsdam, followed by an internship with the Dutch Food designer Marije Vogelzang, which convinced her that food can be thrilling topic, being tied to so many aspects of life. In the past several years, Inés designed and conceptualized numerous installations, thematic pop-up restaurants, exhibitions and guerilla performances around the topic of food and food production. With her interdisciplinary approach, her creative thinking, and her extensive network in the field, she brings most valuable experience to lead this module. www.ineslauber.com |
